Roadwork heating up for the summer

It’s no surprise to those who have driven through the intersection of Highway 85 and 104th Avenue recently that local roadwork is intensifying. In July, it’s expected that motorists will be moved into temporary lanes in this intersection as work continues to make intersection and traffic signal improvements. As a result, drivers can expect heavy traffic delays and changing traffic signal locations.

Motorists can also expect the following activities this summer:

  • Periodic lane closures along 104th Avenue between Lima Street and Landmark Drive to replace a failed section of roadway.
  • Paving work, sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and lane closures along 56th Avenue between Olive Street and Highway 85, and on Monaco Street between 60th Avenue and 72nd Avenue.
  • Roadway resurfacing in the Fronterra Subdivision requires daily detours and no parking along side streets.

Cone zone relief comes later this month with all lanes opening at the intersection of Highway 2 and 96th Avenue. Work on this $6.7 million improvement project began last August and done in phases to minimize public impacts. Crews will complete landscaping, final site restoration and the installation of a wayside horn at the railroad track later this summer.
